Kandy SC along with CR & FC, Havelock SC, CH & FC, CR & FC, Police SC, Navy SC, Army SC and Air Force SC will battle it out for honours at the inter-club league rugby tournament which kicked off on Friday. So, this time too, Kandy SC are blessed with a top side and is led by Roshan Weerarathne. The side is coached by Sean Wijesinghe. He is assisted by Nalaka Weerakkoddy while the team Manager will be Kapila Silva.

The Chairman of Kandy SC Rugby, Lasantha Wijesuriya said that all players are in top form and they are at practices. This time too Kandy SC would be able to give a good display on the field. According to Wijesuriya the present team is stronger than the squad that did duty last season. The defending Sevens, League and Clifford Cup knockout champions, will go all out and are determined to maintain their status as kings of local rugby.

Wijesuriya has the knowledge and experience to drive in values to the players and encourage them as well. He is also a strict disciplinarian. At present the club is the best thanks to the facilities provided to players like a fully equipped rugby grounds that meets International standard. All this is due to the great efforts of “Mr. Rugby” Malik Devapriya

Thanks to Samarawickrema the club possesses all what the players need — a modern club house, dressing room, tiers, restaurant and gymnasium.

Kandy Sports Club will aim high this season and play their first game on Saturday which is against CH and FC in Colombo. This fixture is followed by matches against Air Force SC at Ratmalana, Army SC at Diyagama and Police SC at Nittawela.
