The Muslim Women’s Research and Action Forum condemned the recent incident in a mosque in Puttalam where a sexually abused woman had been assaulted by members of the mosque’s administrative panel.
Director of the Forum, Anberiya Hanifa said that the incident should never have taken place.
Four persons have been arrested and remanded in relation to the said assault. The mosque in question is the jummah mosque in Nallandaluwa. Puttalam Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne remanded the foursome who had beaten the woman who had previously been abused sexually by a man at her residence, with a hanassa (a coconut spathe bowl), indefinitely. She had been given 100 lashes.
