A captain’s knock of 99 runs by Chamara Silva enabled league winners MAS Unichela to a convincing 23-runs win on the D&L method over Commercial Credit in the 24th Singer-MCA Premier League 2017 – ‘Knock-out’ Tournament final, played on October 23 at the MCA grounds.
MAS scored 246 for eight wickets and in reply Commercial Credit scored 159 for six wickets when bad light halted play.
Chamara played the rescue act by scoring 99 runs off 70 deliveries inclusive of six sixes and six fours. He was also involved in an 85 runs partnership with Chathura Peiris for the sixth wicket. He and Thilaksha Sumanasiri also put on a valuable 67 runs for the seventh wicket.
Skipper Upul Tharanga and Chamara Kapugedera’s efforts to put Commercial Credit ahead on the run chase failed. Commercial Credit conceded the match on the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Match referee, Basil Perera adjudged the Unichela captain, Chamara Silva as Man of the Match.
The other three special awards, based on performances in the League stage, went to Dhanushka Gunathilake from MAS Unichela (Best Batsman and Man of the Series) and young fast bowler from John Keells, Vikum Bandara (Best Bowler)
