Sri Lanka Cricket has suspended as many as nine clubs and associations and with it over a hundred players from taking part in any domestic tournaments conducted by it.
The suspension comes in the aftermath of the nine entities not submitting their annual accounts statements to show how the funds doled out to them by Sri Lanka Cricket were used.
The offending teams are Bloomfield, Nomads, Badureliya CC, Negombo CC, Kollupitiya SC, Peterson Lane SC, Southern Province Cricket Association, Matara District Cricket Association and the Puttalam District Cricket Association.
Meanwhile Sri Lanka Cricket has decided to offer contracts to as many as 70 players with a view to taking care of the future and ensuring the national team can be assured of more cricketers for selection.
Sri Lanka Cricket’s executive committee has also opposed moves by India to form a partnership with Australia and England that will give the trio a big say in funds and more opportunities thereby not ensuring a level playing field where all ten Test playing nations can have equal opportunities.
