Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) Vice President and the Tournament Committee Chairman of the upcoming Asian Rugby Sevens Series Lasitha Guneratne is of the opinion that school rugby should be removed from the purview of the Education Ministry and handed over to the Sports Ministry.

He said during an interview with Nation that school rugby will be in the hands of a competent authority if this change is made.

Guneratne said that rugby in Sri Lanka is expected to undergo several changes and he wishes to see this change too if the island is to see a better future in the sport. He said that despite the Education Ministry having authority over school rugby matters, this ministry had not done anything for the development of school rugby.

Guneratne said that the SLRFU is expected to undergo a name change and will be referred to in the future as Sri Lanka Rugby.
