Sex scandals, corruption and irresponsibility have rocked women’s cricket in the country to the point that the team was routed by Australia 5-0 in a concluded home series.

The absence of a master plan to take women’s cricket to grassroots level has further compounded matters despite Sri Lanka Cricket spending millions of rupees from its annual budget which have all being brought to zero going by on-field results.

Except for the absence of a foreign coach, Sri Lanka Cricket has put in place a backstage team to take care of women’s cricket but the process rots with none held accountable. (See page 43 for a comprehensive story on women’s cricket in Sri Lanka)
