United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has commended Sri Lanka’s efforts towards lasting reconciliation.

Addressing the opening of the 71st annual debate of the UN General Assembly, Ban Ki-Moon said the present government has deepened efforts to heal the country after the war.

In his speech, he called on world leaders to serve the people. “Do not subvert democracy, do not pilfer your country’s resources, do not imprison and torture your critics,” he said.
