President Maithripala Sirisena says he will be presenting a special proposal to prevent the spread of narcotics at the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

President Sirisena is expected to address the assembly today.

Speaking to the media in New York, the President said he will also focus on steps taken by the government through its national programme on the prevention of narcotics.

The general debate of the 71st UN session got underway yesterday under the theme ‘The Sustainable Development Goals: a universal push to transform our world’.
