A good opportunity has arrived for the young-talented cricketers from throughout the country to display their talent and skills and be on line to receive support to enhance their talent by excelling at the under-15 inter-district and inter-provincial cricket tournament that is being worked off for the ten year. This tournament is again sponsored by Prima Group for the tenth consecutive year will be played for the Prima Champions Cup.
The tournament that began on August 20 on inter-district basis has now reached the inter-provincial level that will begin on September 17 with the semi-final scheduled for September 26 and the final on September 29 and 30 (2 days) at the SSC ground.
This is the tournament that help young-and talented-cricketers to display their talent and the most outstanding performers will receive financial benefit to enhance their standards further. Many present day national cricketers have all participated in these tournaments in the past and displayed their talent to be picked for further training.
All these players will come under the watchful eyes of selectors who at the end of the inter-district level the best players will be selected to the provincial teams. Ten provincial teams will compete in the inter-provincial championship. There are five teams from the Northern Province representing Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya, Mulaitivu and Kilinochchi.
Mohan de Silva the secretary of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said that this tournament will unearth talent in the grassroots level who will groom in to national cricketers. Most of the national cricketers today come from the outstations unlike in the past. Prima adds strength to SLC to promote cricket in the outstations.
