The winning team celebrate with the trophy

All rounder Ranitha Liyanarachchi steered BMS Colombo to emerge champions for the first time in the Red Bull Campus World Cricket tournament played at the Galle International Stadium recently.
They defeated the University of Liberal Arts’ of Bangladesh by 24 runs in the final of the cricket tournament that was played on a T20 format.
Liyanarachchi’s 52 from 27 balls became useful for BMS who were struggling on 18 for three, to reach a challenging total of 191 for 9 in the 20 overs. This also included some productive partnership with the tail.
“We were struggling but it was not just about BMS it was about the pride of Sri Lanka. Luckily I got a couple of fours away at the start of my innings, so that gave me the confidence,” said Liyanarachchi.
During ULAB’s chase captain Mohammad Hasanuzzaman showcased the panache that has made him a rising batting star in Bangladesh, clattering two sixes and two fours in his 39 at the top of the order. He and Avishek Mishra had put on 88-run for the second wicket, but the batting fell away quickly after that.
