The net is flooded with various hands on reviews, first looks and unboxings of the new iphone 7 and if you can’t still make out whether to buy the new iphone here’s a few reasons to help you decide whether to buy or not to buy that brand new iphone. Note that we are only talking about only iphone 7 and not the Plus, due to space constraints.
The new iphone which was released September 7 was available for preorder on the Apple site on September 9 and was announced available from September 16. If you’re planning to preorder, good luck getting one. Apparently, people have trouble even ordering, with a waiting list running up to November.

Those are iphone problems of the first world. We, Sri Lankan citizens, have to wait much like the rest of the developing countries until our iphones are imported from Singapore.

Jet black

Apple has made only a little difference to the physical model of iphone 6 and 6s. Which means that iphone 7 is little different from its predecessors in appearance, except for the two new colours; black and jet black. The space grey has been taken out of the lineup. It looks glossy in the promotional videos but Jetblack is prone to scratches and is predicted to be the slipperiest iphone of all time. But the Black is my personal favourite and now with the antenna bands repositioned from the back of the phone to the rim, there’s nothing to disturb the stealthy black.

No home button

The major physical difference to the new iphone is the absence of a home button. iphone 7 has a virtual home button, a solid state glass button similar to force touch track pads in the new macbooks. Upgraded to act as the home button replacement, the new Taptic engine also allows for a more tangible 3D touch.

Water resistant, not water proof

It has an IP 67 water resistant rating, but it does not mean it’s invincible. You can’t jump off a cliff into water. However its splash proof, which means you can take it out in the rain or even salvage it if you drop it in the toilet. It can be kept under one meter of water for 30 minutes.

The display of the new iphone 7 is 25 per cent more colourful and brighter. But this means little improvement in screen resolution at a 720p.

No headphone jack

Some reviewers warn that iphone users should ready themselves to live in a world of adapters. The new iphone 7 does not have a 3.5mm headphone jack. If you need to use your normal headset or want to listen to music while charging your phone, you’re going to need a headset with a lightning connector or a lightning adapter.

Iphone 7 is five grams lighter than iphone 6s and its sound output is twice as good as that of 6s. The new iphone 7 affords two more hours of battery life compared to iphone 6s, with 1960 milliampere hours. It is 40 percent more powerful CPU-wise than the 6s, making it ideal for gaming, videos and photos. Infact it’s the first iphone with a quad core CPU. Max capacity storage is 256 gigabytes and base storage is 32 gigabytes available for the 16 GB price.

All in all, it sounds like a good deal but reviewers are betting that iphone 8 would be far better and recommend we wait. But then again as with all the new iphone launches in history, why on earth would we wanna wait?
