The annual six-a-side cricket tournament played in memory of the late T.R.R. Rajan will be held soon at the Asgiriya Stadium. The tournament, 14th in the series, is organized by Rotary Club of Kandy. The tournament dates are yet to be finalized. This is one of the major sporting events organized for members of the Rotary Club.

This tournament has become an important and hugely-fun event in the Rotary sports calendar. Six-a-side cricket is a game played between two teams of six players each. This time, the organizing committee is going all-out to make it a grand success.

Rajan was the 51st president of the Rotary Club of Kandy. He gave a big hand to this club and also helped sports. It was his father, P.T Rajan, who introduced hockey to Kandy. To honour this sports personality, the Wewalpitiya Play Ground was named as P.T. Rajan Play Ground.

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Kandy. The club was founded in 1941.

This year’s organizing committee comprises BDR Suri Rajan –  Advisor,  Vaithies Balasubramaniam – Chairman, Gowri Rajan,  Gnanaraj Ratnapandian, Rose Marie Greve,  Vinoth Kumar,  Girish Atmaram,  John Baskaran,  K. Wigneswaran,  Ajith Jayasinghe,  Parakrama Tennakoon., Prasad Rajan,  Ahalya Rajan, Ishara Gnanaraj R. Divagaran,  N.  Abeyrathna, and  H. Marikar.  This time, too, the tournament is sponsored by Asoka Group of Companies. Those serving the committee and representing the sponsors are Michael Siriwardena, Daphne Karunadasa and   Dammika Ehalagastenna.

Last year, the first place was pocketed by Panadura Club. The second place was taken by Pamunugama Club.

The cricket community hopes the weather will be good during the tournament.
