Renowned rugby referee and coach, Anil Jayasinghe has made a commitment to coach his old school Vidyartha College.

Born in Kandy, bordering the Nittawela Ground, he excelled in sport for his school. He showed his prowess in rugby and cricket. He led both teams. He was an outstanding rugby player for his school and represented Outstation Schools, Kandy Sports Club and Up-Country.  He was also in the national pool and had the privilege of leading both Kandy Sports Club and Up-Country.   Jayasinghe turned in several great performances for his school and later for his club. He played rugby for well over a decade.

Even as a player, he showed that he had a good knowledge of rugby. As a rugby coach, he used to tell players before the game that they must try as hard as possible to run with the ball and to keep to retain possession for as long as possible.  He has made a great contribution to uplift the standard of the game over here in Kandy.

His involvement in the fields of refereeing, coaching and administration has always gained notice. He also served as the vice president of the Sri Lanka Rugby Referees Society. He was the secretary of the Central Province Rugby Football Union and committee member of Kandy Sports Club. After hanging up his boots prematurely, Jayasinghe took to refereeing and coaching. He is a fine coach and did his first assignment as the coach of his school Vidyartha College. He also had stints with Dharmaraja College and the Bradby winning Trinity College coach.  His last coaching assignment was with Zahira College.

He has followed coaching courses in Scotland, England and Wales.  He is all out to give his best for his school, and make Vidyartha a match-winning team. He was first coached by the late George Jayasena at school level and later at Kandy Sports Club by Irwin Howie and the late Col. Bertie Dias.
