Five more suspects have been arrested in connection with the abduction and killing of Mohamed Shakeeb Sulaiman, a businessman from Bambalapitiya.
In addition, the vehicle believed to have been used for the kidnapping has also been taken into custody by police.
Accordingly, the suspects are between ages 25 – 30. The development comes following the arrest of two suspects, aged 22 and 23 years in Grandpass and Aduruppuweediya yesterday.
Sulaiman was abducted outside his home in Bambalapitiya while returning from a party on August 21.
He was found dead in Mawanella on August 24, three days after he was abducted. The abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 20 million.
Eight investigative teams led by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) launched investigations into the incident.
The Colombo Magistrate’s Court had earlier issued an order preventing five businessmen from traveling overseas.
