Australia’s beleaguered cricket captain Steven Smith will pack his bags and quit the Sri Lankan tour on Wednesday.
Smith said he needed some rest and recuperation to prepare for the gruelling tour of India later this year.
Opening batsman David Warner will take over the reins as captain for the rest of the tour.
Sri Lanka and Australia are currently tied in the five-match ODI series at 1-1 with the balance three matches to be played in Dambulla and Pallekele.
The two teams will also feature in two T20 games before ending their rivalry on September 9.
Under Smith Australia also lost the three match Test series 3-0.
