Renault, the French automaker will launch a new variant of its entry level hatchback KWID, in the Indian market tomorrow. This new variant will be powered by a 1.0-litre engine, which pumps out 61bhp and 91Nm of peak torque. Currently, the KWID is available with a 0.8-litre engine, which is good for 54bhp and 72Nm of peak torque.

Both the new and well as the older engines are 3-cylinder petrol power terrains. For the moment, Renault will only launch the 1.0-litre version of the car mated to the same 5-speed manual transmission that is currently available with the 0.8-litre variant. The manufacturer plans to launch the automatic version of the car equipped with an AMT gearbox, featuring Renault’s Easy-R AMT technology by the festive season this year. The Renault KWID 1.0-litre, apart from getting a bigger engine under the hood, will be exactly the same when it comes to its exterior and interior appearance to that of the 0.8-litre KWID. The only point of difference between the two is a sporty livery with ‘1.0’ written on it along with dual tone ORMs on the outside.

Nothing has changed on the inside of the vehicle however. We get the same dashboard layout which featuring the touchscreen Media-NAV system and a chunky steering wheel. Dimension-wise, the Kwid 1.0-litre will remain the same as that of the regular Kwid which is 3679mm of length, 1579mm of width, 1478mm of height and 2422mm of wheelbase

Also, the colour options on the upcoming Kwid 1.0-litre will also remain the same – Fiery Red, Ice Cool White, MoonLight Silver, Outback Bronze and Planet Grey.

The 1.0-litre engine has been derived out of the 0.8-litre unit only by increasing the bore and stroke of the engine. As a result, the fuel efficiency figure has been reduced and now stands at 23.01kmpl as compared to the 800c’s 25.17kmpl.

The prices of the Renault KWID 1.0-litre have not been confirmed yet.
