The JVP has said that the Office of Missing Persons has a limited mandate and was restricted to finding information of missing persons and did not address the compensation to affected families.

JVP Parliamentarian Bimal Rathnayake addressing the media today said the Office of Missing Persons will not look into compensation for families of those affected and will not address such incidents recurring in future.

He added that the JVP, in its manifesto during the August General Election last year, had pledged to set up a similar institution.

Rathnayake pointed out that it was important for a commission to not only look into missing persons, but also to focus on all communities that were affected by the conflict.
