Sri Lanka Under-20 rugby sevens coach Sudath Sampath believes the team will carry the confidence they built by winning the first leg of the Asian Under-20 Rugby Sevens in Malaysia in to the second leg of the tournament which will be hosted by Hong Kong this month.

Sri Lanka emerged as a surprise package at the tournament and won the Cup Championship by beating South Korea 38-0 in the final.

“Sri Lanka gave enough signs from the start of the tournament that they will do well,” Sampath said after his chargers beat UAE (45-5), Philippines (22-5), Thailand (31-5) and went down fighting to Japan 19-14 in the league stage of the tournament.

Sampath said that the players did well because they were mentally and physically prepared for the tournament, which is contested by Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, UAE and Japan alongside Sri Lanka.
Sampath said that he was confident that his side would do well in the second leg of the tournament which will be held on August 12 and 13.
