Gihan Karunaratne spelling out the tournament format

Oman Air Golf Classic which has become a much looked forward to event will be held at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort course in Dagana, Kandy on September 3.
This is the sixth edition of this sporting event which has also attracted entries from golfers from countries like Oman, Doha and UAE. The golf course itself is picturesque and has won acclaim as one of the best golf courses in the sub continent for the ninth time.

Country Manager of the national carrier of Oman Gihan Karunaratne said that they conduct this tournament annually to promote golf in Sri Lanka, and make Sri Lanka as a golfing destination for golfers in the Middle East.

“We hope that more businessmen will come to Sri Lanka and establish contacts with local business enterprises through golf,” observed Karunaratne.

He also said that about 14 foreigners will be among 70 odd golfers vying for honours in the tournament. The organisers have accepted entries from men and women golfers.
The tournament will be played in keeping with the stableford points system. Prizes will be given away to the overall winner, runner-up, best gross score, nearest to the pin and longest drive. The overall winner will receive Rs. 100,000. Arrangements have been made to  give away gift vouchers to other winners.
