Frizzy hair is a major mood-kill for most of us. Especially when the hair turns all frizzy on a day we particularly want it smooth and silky. It can be a first date, graduation or an awards ceremony, but the joy would be somewhat diminished and the confidence would waver in the face of a frizz blitz. For some, frizzy hair is an everyday menace, while for others, it is once in a while nagging issue.

Hair turns frizzy primarily due to lack of moisture in the hair cuticles. Extreme humidity, repeated blow drying, chemicals in hair care products and basically anything that overheats the hair makes it frizz. Frizzy hair can easily be treated with some home remedies. All you need is a bit of patience and extra time on hand.

Avocado and olive oil
Avocado is an excellent remedy for frizzy hair. The vitamin E content and fatty acids hydrate hair and helps alleviate frizz. Combined with olive oil, it would nourish hair from root to tips.  Take a ripe avocado and mash it. Add about one tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and mix well to obtain a thick pulp. Shampoo your hair first. Then, apply the mixture and leave on for one hour. After one hour wash off thoroughly with cold water. If you like, you can follow with a conditioner to get rid of the avocado smell. Repeat twice a week for best results.

Banana and yoghurt
Bananas are rich in healthy oils, vitamins and carbohydrates that would moisturize and nourish hair. Protein in yoghurt would add strength to hair, while lactic acid and zinc would boost blood circulation to the scalp to ensure a healthy supply of nutrients. First, take a very ripe banana and mash it to a thick pulp. Add one quarter cup of yoghurt to this mixture. Mix well add two tablespoons of honey and two tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Mix to obtain a paste with a thick consistency. Apply the paste on hair and work well from root to tip. Massage gently onto the scalp for few minutes. Then, pile the hair on top of your head and cover with a shower cap or a plastic bag. Let it stand for one hour. After one hour, rinse well, shampoo and condition the hair. Repeat weekly for best results.

Coconut milk
Coconut milk contains light protein and fatty acid and it’s an excellent source of moisture for hair. Scrape a coconut and squeeze out the coconut milk. Heat two tablespoons of coconut milk in a small pot to make it warm. Ensure that the coconut milk does not get burnt. Check carefully that the coconut milk is tolerably warm to be applied on scalp. Then, apply the warm milk on the hair and cover up with a towel. Let it sit overnight. In the morning, shower as usual and wash off hair with shampoo. Repeat twice a week.

Carbonated water
The low pH value in mineral water and soda helps calm frizzy hair. Shampoo the hair as usual. Then, rinse off with carbonated water. This could be used each and every time hair is washed.

Honey and lime
Lime contains nutrients that promote healthy hair while honey is an excellent moisturizer. Together, they serve as an excellent remedy for frizzy hair. Take one cup of water and add two tablespoons of honey and two tablespoons of fresh lime juice to it. Mix well. Shampoo hair and then apply this mixture on hair. Do not apply on the scalp. Leave on for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat twice a week.
