Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has signed the Right to Information Bill, Chief Government Whip, and Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, Gayantha Karunatileka has said.

The RTI Bill was passed with amendments on June 24.

The Bill was first presented to Parliament on the March 24 this year and the amended bill was presented in Parliament on June 23 for the second reading.

The purpose of the Bill is to provide for the Right of Access to information, to specify grounds on which access may be denied, to establish the Right to Information commission, to appoint Information Officers and to set out the procedure and for matters connected with it.
