The China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), which handles the construction of the Port City project has decided to withdraw all compensation claims for losses incurred due to the suspension of the project.
This was announced by Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media, Gayantha Karunatileka at the Cabinet briefing held this afternoon.
The company had previously said that it was incurring a daily loss of Rs. 50 million due to the suspension of the project.
However, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had earlier said that Sri Lanka would not have to pay compensation for the losses incurred due to the suspension of the project, and added that the issue was not raised during his recent visit to China.
