The year 2016 marks the 75th death anniversary of Nobel laureate Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore. In connection with this anniversary, the Centre for Contemporary Indian Studies (CCIS) in collaboration with the Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo is organizing an international seminar on ‘Revisiting Rabindranath Tagore’ s Legacy’ on August 4 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm at the Senate Hall, College House, University of Colombo. Indian High Commissioner, YK Sinha will preside over the function as the Chief Guest.
The main objective of this seminar is to revisit Tagore’s legacy in cultural revival and its influence on India-Sri Lanka relations. This seminar will address central themes associated with Tagore’s works and translations from a literary, social and historical perspective. Dr. Martin Kämpchen, Prof. Amrit Sen, two eminent scholars from Santiniketan, India and Daya Dissanayake, Susil Siriwardene and Madhubhashini Disanayaka Rathnayake will present their papers at the seminar.
