The only feature more attractive than a pair of dewy red lips is a pair of beautiful bright eyes. However, very few people have naturally red lips these days. Most have dark lips that are grayish and old. This is due to excessive sun exposure, overuse of chemical products on lips, hormonal imbalance, smoking, allergies and high caffeine intake. Lips could be made naturally red using herbal remedies. The steps include exfoliating, conditioning, lip plumping and moisturizing.
This would get rid of dry and dead skin that builds up on the lips, obscuring the natural colour. Exfoliation brightens the lips to bring out the natural red. This could be done using a homemade scrub. Mix one teaspoon of honey with one teaspoon of sugar. This would make a thick mixture. Gently massage your lips in circular motion with this mixture, for three minutes. Rinse off with warm water and repeat if necessary. If the lips are still not cleansed sufficiently, brush lightly with a soft bristled toothbrush. Keep the toothbrush in warm water for ten minutes and then gently brush the lips with it. Wash off with lukewarm water and repeat as necessary.
This is the process where blood circulation on lips is increased so that the lips look plump and red. This could be done by applying a natural lip plumper.
To make a natural lip plumper at home, mix one quarter teaspoon of powdered cinnamon with enough extra virgin olive oil to make a thick paste. Apply the mixture on lips, leave on for five minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.
Alternatively, a piece of freshly cut ginger could be rubbed on the lips for five minutes everyday to make the lips plump. Wash off lips with cold water after five minutes.
Moisture is important to retain the red colour of lips. If the lips dry out they would appear pale and dull. Apply a thick layer of extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil on a daily basis, to prevent dryness. They would also ensure a red flush to the lips. Other herbal remedies
This nutrient-rich fruit would heal, moisturize and restore dry lips and give them a natural reddish colour. Take one tablespoon of freshly crushed pomegranate seeds and add a little bit of cream. To get cream, take fresh milk and boil over a stove. A creamy layer would form on top of the milk. Extract this carefully using a spoon. Then add few drops of rose water to the cream and pomegranate seeds mixture. Apply this on lips and gently scrub the lips in circular motion for three minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat daily for best results.
This exotic flower has three important properties, which make it ideal for reddening dull lips. They are soothing, cooling and moisturizing. In addition, roses add a beautiful hue to the lips. Soak a few rose petals in raw milk. After one hour, remove the petals from milk and grind them, to make a paste. Add half a teaspoon of honey and a pinch of saffron to the mixture. Apply on lips and leave on for 15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water and repeat twice a day. Your lips would feel as soft as rose petals.
Lip conditioning involves applying a layer of serum on the lips. This provides protection to lips all day long. Extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil are two of the natural substances that act as excellent lip serums.
