The much delayed delimitation for the forthcoming Local Government polls will be completed in two to three months and the election will be held before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year next year.

Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Faiszer Musthapha  said that he was confident the delimitation would not hold any party related bias.

When questioned as to why there was such a gap between the completion of delimitation and the elections, Musthapha added that the committee would be open to further amendments if needed. He mentioned that the new wards system introduced in 2012 and the mandatory women participation clauses introduced last year would be extremely beneficial to the society.  He reiterated that the delay was the result of careful work on the system to ensure that flaws were minimal.
