A hole in one by Saqib Syed Ahmed from Bangalore was the highlight on the second day at the JAT Sri Lanka Open Golf Championship that was played last week at the Ridgeways course.
Ahmed obtained this hole in one on the 288 yard par 4 sixth hole. This is the first occasion that a player has holed out from the tee. What is creditable is that the hole in one was achieved in a Professional golf tournament.
Rashid Khan chipped-in for an Eagle on the 18th to finish 1 under and tie with the 2 round leader Syed Saqib Ahmed on a Total of 4 under Par.
Khan had a mixed round with an unexpected 4 putt on the Par 5, 14th which he sailed on in two, but failed to capitalize charging his eagle Putt! However, Rashid made up for that lapse by holing his second shot on the closing 18th hole for an Eagle.
Khalin Joshi carded a 2 under par 69 together with B. A. Sanjeewa who had the same score and are tied in third place at a total 2 under par, 2 strokes off the lead.
Anura Rohana, Thangaraja, Mithun Perera, Prabagaran are all in a heap, bunched up behind the leading quartet.
Title Sponsor JAT Holdings and the co-sponsor UTE CAT are highly commended for making it possible to distribute a Prize purse of Rupees two million five hundred thousand, laying the platform for a Sri Lanka Professional Golf Tour by 2017.
