The much looked forward to 43rd Annual Sri Lanka Schools All-island Age Group Aquatic Championships for the year 2016 will be conducted at the Sugathadasa Stadium swimming pool from June 23-26.

The organizers of the event have made arrangements to conduct events in the following categories: For boys and girls in the under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19 years.

As many as 140 individual events and 24 relays will be worked off during the four-day competition which will be sponsored by Milo (Nestle Lanka PLC).

According to the organizers of the championship, certificates will be awarded to those who reach the qualifying time in the under-13 age group competitions.

Certificates will be awarded to those who finish between first to eighth places in the age group events above age 13. Medals will be given to swimmers in this category who finish in first, second and third places. The under-15, under-17 and under-19 (girls and boys) events have been included in this category. Trophies will be given to individuals and best schools contesting events in these categories.

The trophies on offer are: Senior Champion Girls Trophy, Senior Champion Boys Trophy, Girls Overall Champion Trophy and Boys Overall Champion Trophy.

As many as 1715 entries from boys and 1002 entries from girls have been received for the championships.

Last year St. Joseph’s College Maradana won the Boys Overall Champion Trophy while Mahamaya Girls School Kandy won the Overall Girls Champion Trophy.

Additional Secretary Minister of Education Asoka Senani Hewage will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony while Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony at the championships. (RN)
