The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) is presently looking into aspects concerning the Constitutional Council which require improvement.

President of the BASL, President’s Counsel Geoffrey Alagaratnam said that the Constitutional Council’s functioning, transparency, criteria adopted in selecting candidates for nominations to high profile appointments, the procedures followed and the manner in which their duties were conducted were being looked at.

Elsewhere, if there are allegations against a member of the judiciary including a magistrate as in the case involving Colombo Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage, these must be investigated with seriousness and appropriate action must be taken, he added.

Even with the case of the appointment of the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, any allegations of corruption must be looked at, he explained.
