The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) highlighted that there was a shortage of essential medicinal drugs in health camps set up to treat those affected from the rain, floods and landslides.

JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation of Sri Lanka should intervene to provide these drugs.

At present, there are skin diseases, respiratory diseases and gastrointestinal diseases among the victims, he explained.

“There is a shortage of essential drugs in medical camps and centres established for the said purpose in flood and landslide hit areas. There is food and drink and dry rations available, thanks to the members of the public. Whatever medicines we have, too have been given by citizens. We urge the public to continue donating medicines. The Government must look into this matter urgently and make available these drugs,” he added.
