Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo will be organizing a Bharathanatyam Recital by eminent dancer Arupa Lahiry from India at 6.00 pm on Friday, June 3 at its auditorium located at 16/2, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7.

Arupa Lahiry, is a passionate dancer from Kolkata, whose search for excellence in Bharatnatyam took her to study this art form from the legendary Smt. Chitra Visweswaran in Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts, Chennai. She is a Senior Scholarship holder from the Department of Culture, Government of India. Arupa has also accompanied her guru, Smt. Chitra Visweswaran for various lecture-demonstrations besides being a staff-member of her guru’s premium institution ‘Chidambaram Academy of Performing Arts’, Chennai.

She has gone on to prove her mettle in solo performances at major festivals and sabhas, nationally and internationally which include Swami Haridas Sammelan, Unbound Beats – a young dancers’ festival, Pallavotsav, Living Arts Centre, Toronto, International Bharatnatyam Festival, Kuala Lumpur and many more. Arupa has choreographed and danced for a bhakti series ‘Main Kaun’ aired in Zee Networks and has been featured in reputed tabla player Tanmoy Bose’s music album released from the label ‘SaReGaMa’. Arupa also collaborates with various other dancers from different genres to create her own productions.
