The Meteorological Department last week said that rains would continue for the next few days and would see an increase from Monday (23).

Director, Department of Meteorology, S. Premalal said that rains which reduced during the latter part of the week would see an increase from Monday but added it would not reach unprecedented levels.

He said that moderate thunder showers would occur in North-Eastern and North-Western areas of the country in coming days.

In addition, he said there would be a slight delay in experiencing the Northeast monsoon owing to the prevailing adverse weather conditions.

Meanwhile, the Met Department yesterday said the cyclonic storm ‘ROANU’ in the Bay of Bengal was moving away from the island. “Strong windy conditions over the country and in the sea areas around the island are likely to reduce gradually. Showery conditions are also expected to reduce in next two days,” a statement by the department said.
