Adventures of Rudra an Investigator is a collection of ten detective short stories of an investigator who lived in colonial Ceylon. The stories mainly cover the latter part of the period between the two wars in the 20th century and are narrated by his faithful companion. The similarity to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson is undeniable. However, the stories cover his early life the detective as a schoolboy and his latter life after he turned professional.

The ten stories cover investigations linked to murder, robbery and espionage. It contains fascinating factual details of events leading up to the second world war and historically interesting places and events in Sri Lanka, which readers have come to expect of the author, apart from a good old fashioned detective story without the fast pace and gadgetry of modern ones.

The stories commence with the reunion of roommates in the school hostel the investigator and his companion. They realise that their individual needs, of an investigator and of a writer, can both be achieved by working together. So begin a partnership that covers a period from school days to early adulthood. While some of the stories are based entirely in Ceylon others go to many locations in the empire and beyond.
