Sri Lanka beat Nepal in the final to be crowned champions at the Inaugural South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Women’s Championship held at the National Sports Council Indoor Stadium in Kathmandu, a few days ago. In the final, Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 73 points to 49.
Sri Lanka led by one of the most seasoned campaigners, Jayaliya Kumari, were the dominant team at the tournament defeating the Maldives 106-39, Bhutan 112-31 and Bangladesh 115-11 to secure full points before the deciding fixture against Nepal.
Sri Lanka dominated the game from the start and led in all four quarters. Despite Nepal fighting well from the start, the Lankans outscored their opponents which took them to an easy win.
Sri Lanka head coach Tuan Murad Amath said he had confidence in the team from the word go and added that he was able to use the entire team during all five games Sri Lanka played in.
The Sri Lanka team was captained by Jayaliya Kumari. The team also had the support of Anuradha Wijesinghe (Assistant Coach), Paul Newman (Manager) and Chathura Rodrigo (Trainer).
