Land Rover, as principal sponsor, together with Munchee in the capacity of an associate sponsor has tied up with Trinity College rugby this season.
The sponsorship was disclosed during a press conference held on April 20 (Wednesday) at the Land Rover showroom in Colombo. Principal of Trinity College Kandy T.B.Jeganathan, SML Frontier Automotive Ltd. Managing Director Sheran Fernando, Group General Manager – Marketing, Ceylon Biscuits Limited Theja Peiris, Trinity Rugby Scrummage Chairman Rohan Abeykoon and Rahul karunathilaka- 1st XV Captain of Trinity College were present
at the function.
Speaking at the event Vice Principal of Trinity College Jeganathan said, “In sports two things are very important. That is to be modest in victory and to be generous in defeat,” while thanking both the main sponsor and the associate sponsor for their generosity.
OTRC Chairman Rohan Abeykoon welcomed those present and thanked the two sponsors Land Rover and CBL for coming forward to uplift the Trinity rugby. He promised that Trinity College Rugby will be in higher position and will keep growing in
Trinity College 1st XV captain Rahul karunathilaka expressing his thoughts said, “This is the 110th year in Trinity Rugby and I’m proud to be the 100th captain to lead the College team in the College rugby history”. He added, “We expect a grand rugby season ahead and want to play the game in true spirit, sportsmanship and carry forward the Lions’ pride”.
Sheran Fernando and Theja Peiris also spoke at the event.
Trinity College Kandy, which was founded in 1872, has an unparalleled rugby tradition in Sri Lanka where old boy L.E. Blaze is credited for having introduced the game to the island’s schools in 1906, the year in which Trinity played Kingswood College, which also marked the first schoolboy rugby encounter in the country.
