The Sihala Ravaya has called for the arrest of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran over statements allegedly to have been made in support of separatism.
Accordingly, a complaint will be filed at the Police Headquarters with the new Inspector General of Police, calling on the Police to arrest Northern Province Chief Minister, C.V. Wigneswaran and Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe.
General Secretary of the Sihala Ravaya, Ven. Magalkande Sudhdhaththa Thera alleged that Wigneswaran had recently stated that the Northern and Eastern Provinces should be amalgamated and a separate State and regime should be created while Wickremesinghe had allegedly stated that the struggle of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had been a fair and just one.
“Now that Wigneswaran and the Tamil National Alliance have clearly aired their stance, we challenge the Government, the President and the Prime Minister to explain their position as to whether they are for federalism or for a unitary State,” he added.
The Thera said that Wigneswaran’s statement was in violation of the Constitution. “Such a statement amounts to aiding and abetting separatism and adversely impacts territorial integrity and sovereignty,” he said.
“Wickremesinghe’s statement is very serious. He is the Prime Minister for the entire country including those in the South and not just for the North and the East,” the monk added. “Wickremesinghe through his statement justifies the LTTE, who are murderous terrorists.”
