Sri Lanka Navy apprehended nine Sri Lankans who attempted to leave for Australia illegally yesterday morning (April 19) in the seas of 30 nautical miles West of Negombo.

The arrested included five men, a woman, two boys and a girl. Navy officials revealed that they had left from the Negombo harbor on board a Multi-Day Fishing Vessel named “Rishna Duwa”.

The Navy apprehended them on a tip off received by intelligence personnel and they were brought to Colombo Harbor and handed over to the Maritime Division of Police Criminal Investigation Division for further investigations.
