The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has carried out over 1000 raids islandwide on errant traders this month in view of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

A senior official attached to the CAA said that the majority of the raids were carried out in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Kandy.

The raids were carried out based on complaints received by the authority. In addition, the CAA had also conducted several raids to ensure that substandard quality products are not sold to consumers during the festive season.

Accordingly, the CAA has urged consumers who had purchased substandard products to submit written complaints addressed to the Chairman of the CAA. Accordingly, consumers who had purchased poor quality goods from pavement hawkers too could write to the authority for action to be taken against them.
