While moustaches and facial hair is adorned by men, it is hardly an accessory for women. However, to the misfortune of most women, they find hair on the upper lip and elsewhere on face. Reasons for this could vary from hormonal imbalances to genetics. Most spend a small fortune every week for upper lip bleaching or threading, permanent waxing and so on. Economy is only one part of the story. Side effects and diseases induced by unhygienic practices at beauty parlours are quite another. Luckily, there are herbal remedies for facial hair that could be tried at home. While some bleach hair naturally, others permanently get rid of hair, if used regularly. The main ingredients are patience and
perseverance, and with time there would be no facial hairs.
Onion and basil
Thin, transparent membranes of the onion skin would effectively remove hair, when combined with basil. It is a bit tricky to separate the transparent membranes. These lie between the onion layers. This remedy is better avoided by those with sensitive skin. Extract membranes from two medium sized onions. Crush it with 10 basil leaves, to make a paste. Apply on face and leave on for 25 minutes. Wash off. Repeat four times a week for best results. You would see the reduction in hair growth after few weeks.
Chickpeas and milk
Chickpeas have been used traditionally to remove hair growth by Indians. Mix half a cup of chickpea flour, one teaspoon of turmeric powder, one teaspoon of fresh cream and half a cup of milk, in a bowl to make a thick, smooth paste. Apply on the face, covering the hairy areas well. Leave on for 30 minutes and remove, rubbing in circular motion, with wet hands. Make sure to rub in the direction opposite to that of hair growth. Then, wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat four times a week.
Papaya and turmeric
This is suitable for even those with sensitive skin. Papaya has an enzyme which restricts hair growth. Take a fresh papaya, peel it, and cut it into small pieces. Then mash it to form a pulp. Take two tablespoons of this pulp and mix it with half a tablespoon of turmeric powder. Apply on cleansed face and massage in circular motion for 20 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water and repeat twice a week.
Potatoes and lentil
Potatoes contain bleaching agents that would naturally bleach facial hair. When combined with yellow lentil, it would effectively remove hair. Take a bowl of yellow lentil and soak them overnight in water. Peel the skin off from a single potato. Then mash it. Remove the water from lentils and grind them to make a paste. Then, extract juice from the mashed potato and add it to the lentil paste. Take a fresh lime and squeeze the juice. Add four tablespoons of this juice to the mixture. Also, add a tablespoon of honey. Apply on cleansed face and leave on for 30 minutes. Then wash off with lukewarm water, massaging the paste in circular motion. The dried lentils would pull off the hair. Repeat once a week for best results.
