Northern Province Chief Minister, C.V. Wigneswaran last week said he did not boycott the Chief Ministers meeting last week but kept away due to health reasons.
The 32nd Provincial Chief Ministers Conference was held in Hikkaduwa on Monday (21) and was chaired by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Wigneswaran was the only notable absentee at the event. It was speculated that Wigneswaran had boycotted the event.
However, responding to a query by Nation, Wignesawaran said that he was forced to keep away from the event as he was suffering from cellulitis. “Doctors wanted me to be warded to undergo a course of injections. I did my work and went every six hours to get the injections. Under those circumstances you cannot expect me to travel to Hikkaduwa all the way from here – Jaffna,” he said.
He also added that he had informed the President over the phone and also by writing to the Assistant Secretary to the President who coordinated the meeting.
