Isipathana College with a star studded line-up will be in search of past glories when they come out to contest the Inter-school Division 1 Rugby Tournament. The ‘Green Shirts’ are led this season by the experienced centre Kushan Indunil.

Nilfer Ibrahim is the head coach of Isipathana College rugby and has been the architect behind seven Cup championship wins. This year he will be assisted by Terrence Henry. Navindra Dayan will be the trainer.

They have retained four players from the team that performed last year. Despite the many fresh faces in the side, they could be considered as strong contenders for the title.

In the league tournament last year their finest moment came when they outplayed St. Peter’s College at Bambalapitiya. Their success certainly had a great amount of significance as they were performing away from home. They had wins over Dharmaraja, St. Joseph’s, C.W.W. Kannangara and Science College. Last year they finished second in the final points table after losing to Royal in the league decider.

Anyway, the green shirts were able to conclude the season on a positive note by emerging runners-up at the President’s Trophy knock out tournament. They beat Trinity in the semi-finals.
Isipathana College can look back at the past with pride having produced as many as approximately 75 national players.
Isipathana are supported immensely by Havelock Sports Club which provides its grounds free for practices.

During the past couple of years the Sri Lanka team has been studded with Isipathanians in the likes of Srinath Sooriyabandara, Dinesh Chaturanga, Rezah Mubarak, Sajith Saranga, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe and Hirantha Perera. This is in addition to their contribution to the junior Sri Lanka team.
This season Isipathana had a runaway 61-15 victory against Dharmaraja College Kandy.
