The exciting sport of horse racing in Sri Lanka will see a new dimension emerging with the formation of the Royal Turf Club.
The sport that was introduced by John Baker in the late 1940’s held their inaugural race in 1875 at the Nuwara Eliya Race Course. This was originally conducted by the Nuwara Eliya Gymkhana Club.
President of the Royal Turf Club is Suranjith Premadasa of equestrian fame. Mrs. Lucille Dahanayake will be the secretary, Nishitha Rupasinghe is the treasurer while the committee comprise of Ranjith Dahanayake, Nihara Jayatilleke and Sudharshana Deshapriya.

The RTC intends to continue with its program of development by investing over the next two years, in partnership with foreign investors to make Sri Lanka and Nuwara Eliya, a racing hub for the region.
