The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) observed that India was presently using Sri Lanka as a dumping site for their vehicles.

JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said with the proposed Indo-Sri Lanka Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), Prime Minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Malik Samarawickrema, were both engaged in a political deal for the sustenance of the Government.

For the purposes of gaining the support of the Indian Government, the duo is giving this as a political bribe, he said adding that it was not good for the country.

The trade gap between the two countries is increasing, he noted.

He pointed out that India was experiencing the phenomenon of unemployment among the educated, and added that  this too was a problematic premise because certificates of degrees and diplomas could be obtained from the dime a dozen institutes which have mushroomed all over India, the ultimate result being that there is cheap labour, lacking in quality.

This is why the Middle East is in the process of closing and weaning off their labour markets to India, he claimed.
