The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) claimed that over 1,000 to 1,500 Indian boats were presently engaged in plundering the country’s marine resource, thereby adversely impacting the livelihoods of the Northern fishermen.
JVP MP Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that the Government was not concerned about creating employment opportunities for those in the North.
The Government is using business deals to pacify India, Europe and the United States of America without concern for trade that is beneficial for the country, he added.
“It is the Government’s responsibility to protect the human rights of the Sinhalese, Tamils and the Muslims. If the Government fails at this, there is international interference which is dangerous for the country as the nation will have to dance to the tune of others. This Government has no genuine intention to win the trust of the Tamil people through the distribution of lands and aspects like the provision of information regarding missing persons to the members of their families. This is just a show,” he remarked.
