The Joint Opposition will be discussing the possible nomination of a MP belonging to the group to be appointed as the General Secretary of the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA).

MP Dinesh Gunawardena said that the matter would be taken up at a discussion held on February 29.

The position is presently vacant following the passing of Prof. Vishwa Warnapala recently.

The Joint Opposition is comprised of MPs belonging to constituent parties of the UPFA including the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, who support MP Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It is reported elsewhere that the names of MPs Dullas Alahapperuma and Mahinda Amaraweera are being touted as possible appointments to the post.
