Wheelchair tennis players line up at the dinner party hosted by SLTA in Colombo last week

An enhanced number of 47 players from 14 countries are in Sri Lanka to participate in three back to back Wheelchair Tennis Tournaments Futures and a World Cup qualifying Asia Region Tournament being played in Sri Lanka.

This is an increase in the number of players who participated in the previous years at the tournament conducted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association for the ninth year.

The series began with the Negombo Tennis Club Championship that was played in Negombo from 15 to 17 February. This was followed by the Sri Lanka Open at the SLTA courts from 19 to 21 February. The SSC Open was held from 23 to 25 February and the World Team Cup Regional Qualifiers for Asia from 27 February to 1 March at the SLTA courts.

Players from China emerged as the best team in the Negombo Open winning the men’s and women’s singles events.

Zujun Wei won the men’s singles event beating Ha-Gel Lee of Korea in a closely contested final 7/5, 4/6, (12-10).

The men’s doubles event was won by He-Gel Lee and Sang Ho On of Korea.

The women’s singles event was won by Zhenzhen Zhu of China.
Zujun Wei of China once again won the men’s singles event at the Sri Lanka open held at the SLTA courts. He beat Francesc Tur of Spain 6/2, 6/3 in the final.

The men’s doubles event was won by the Korean pair of Ha-Gel Lee and Sang Ho Oh.

The women’s singles event was won by Zhanzhen Zhu of China once again. She beat the second seed Ziying Wang also of China in the final.
