The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) has planned a three-day emergency programme to go from house to house in areas badly hit by dengue, especially in the Western Province and the City of Colombo.

The said programme will be conducted on March 10, March 11 and March 12.
Director of the NDCU, Dr. A.H.M. Thawfeek said upto last week; they were receiving 1,000 cases per week. The District of Colombo is where most of the cases are reported from, and then it is from the Districts of Gampaha, Jaffna, Galle and Kandy, he explained.

Last week we have experienced a decreasing trend with only 850 cases being reported, he added noting that in other Districts outside the Western Province, the number of cases reported were less..

“In 2015 December and 2016 January, there have been a lot of cases mainly in the City of Colombo and also in other places, despite regular preventive activities conducted by the Control Unit. The reason for the rise of dengue is that it is a complex, multi-faceted problem,” he remarked.
