One  of the convicts involved in the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi Nalini Sriharan, who has been lodged in Vellore Central Prison for the last 25 years, attended the funeral of her father, P Sankaranarayanan (91), in Chennai on Wednesday, Indian media reported.

According to reports, Nalini got a 12-hour parole from Vellore Central Prison to attend her father’s last rites. She had arrived at her father’s house at Kottupuram around 9.45am and was accompanied by Vellore police.

Security had been beefed up since Tuesday night for the funeral of Sankaranarayanan who passed away after a heart attack.
