Four officials attached to the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) in Anuradhapura have been transferred to Colombo after they had failed to prepare necessary documents and cheques for loan applicants.

An event was recently held in Anuradhapura to provide Rs. 50,000 loan to those whose houses were damaged and needed repairs.

Minister of Housing and Construction Sajith Premadasa who attended the event as the Chief Guest was to hand out the loans to 53 beneficiaries. However, the beneficiaries could not obtain the loans as the necessary documentations and the cheques had not been prepared by the officials in time.

The four officials, attached to the Thalawa divisional Secretariat, were promptly transferred to Colombo on the Minister’s orders.
A Ministry official told the Nation that over 600 families were identified as eligible for the loan facility and 53of them were to receive the loans last week.

The loan facility is provided as part of ‘Samata Sewana’ programme. The minister had reportedly cancelled the function and had ordered the NHDA officials to provide all participants to be provided lunch and transport allowances.
