Several Women’s organizations in Mannar District have proposed to the Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms to remove the image of the lion from the National flag. They have suggested that a symbol, representing all communities be incorporated in the flag, instead of the lion.
The Public Representations Committee on Constitutional Reforms, which was in Mannar on February 10 and 11 recorded the suggestions presented by the women’s organizations.
Accordingly, they have pointed out that the lion was perceived as representing one particular community.
The women have also proposed the establishment of a separate court to punish the rapists as well as the setting up of a special committee to look into the issues faced by women.
