“The eyes are the windows of the soul,” said somebody wise, long ago. Many of us have experienced the truth of this at one time or another. No doubt you would have walked around all day, after cramming for an exam or late night out partying, with raccoon eyes, looking exhausted – justly so. Eyes reflect emotions, stress and fatigue. Eye bags appear overnight, out of nowhere and tend to change your whole demeanor. Wrinkles around the eyes give you a prematurely aged look. However, with some well chosen herbal remedies, you can bid good bye to raccoon eyes and wrinkles.

Olive oil is an excellent moisturizer for your eyes. This would remove the wrinkles from your eyes effectively. Take a quarter teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil and heat it slightly by holding over fire. Make sure that the oil is very slightly warm and will not burn. Apply around the eyes and massage with index finger for about two minutes. Leave on. Repeat daily for wrinkle free eyes. This could be used as a substitute for under eye cream.
Cucumbers have skin lightening properties in addition to astringent properties, which would help remove dark circles. In addition, it would sooth and refresh your overworked eyes. Cut two fresh slices of cucumber and refrigerate them for 30 minutes. Then, close your eyes and place a cucumber slice on each lid. Make sure your skin is free of cosmetic. Leave for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Do this twice a day. Alternatively, you could make a pulp out of cucumbers and refrigerate it for around 10 minutes. Then, apply it around the eyes, with a piece of cotton. Leave on for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Ideally this should also be carried out twice a day.
Slice a fresh avocado and place on closed eyes. Ensure the dark areas underneath the eyes are covered. Press gently on top of the avocados so that the natural oils seep on to the skin and remove dark circles and wrinkles. Lave on for 15 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Repeat every other day.
The antioxidants and tannin present in tea is a sure fire remedy for dark circles. Chill two used tea bags (preferably green tea) in the refrigerator. Place the chilled tea bags over your eyes for about 15 minutes. Wash face with cold water after removing the tea bags. Repeat daily for best results.
Potato has natural bleaching agents which would effectively remove your dark circles. Additionally, it is a good remedy for puffy eyes. Grate two small potatoes and squeeze them over a strainer to extract juice. Take two small cotton balls and soak them well, in the juice. Then, close your eyes and place the cotton balls on your lids. Ensure that the dark area underneath the eye is covered properly with the cotton ball. Leave on for 15 minutes and wash off with cold water. Repeat daily for best results.
Fenugreek seed pack
Fenugreek seeds are rich in vitamin C, potassium and protein necessary to lighten dark spots. Take two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds and soak them in water for four hours. Then, grind them into a smooth paste. Add half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and one teaspoon of milk to the paste and mix well to make a thick paste. Apply the mixture under the eyes, leave on for 15 minutes and wash off well with lukewarm water. Be careful not to rub the area around your eyes. Carry this out on daily basis to remove eye bags.
